Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys clip

Hey all. Been a while since I posted and I will be posting more AM stuff soon.

While working I listen to audio books. Recently I have been listening to Neil Gaiman's "American Gods" and "Anansi Boys". While listening to Anansi Boys I came across this little section and I thought it was hilarious. So I converted it to MP3 so you all could hear it too. Its about 2 minutes long. I can't stop laughing.

POV is gone.

So I won the second and last POV challenge. But pretty much by default. I was the only one to make it past the blocking stage. Because of lack of participation and the amount of work involved Oliver has decided to close down POV for good. It is very frustrating that as an animation community we let such a resource die. In two months the whole contest got 4 unfinished entry's. While 11 second club gets 65. I just don't get it.

So I finished up the piece I entered with. Here it is. It doesn't deserve the win but I am still pretty proud of the piece.

Week 8

So here is my Blocked out walk cycle for week 8. In week 9 we polish it up.

Week 8, Walk Blocking from Greg Marlow and Vimeo.

I chose the strong pose that I did for personal reasons. My dad is a brick and block mason and I have worked with him quite a lot in the past. It is very very hard work, and although a concrete block is only about 55 pounds it takes a lot of strength to be able to carry those all day.

So rather than convey strength by having my character lifting a very heavy object one time (like a huge rock) I decided to go somewhat more subtle and try to convey in the way that I did. Of course I am somewhat bias because I think of my dad when someone says strength. But hopefully I was able to put enough of that into the Stu pose to allow others to see it too.

If not I have a backup of Stu lifting a heavy rock :D

2d taylor

I wanted to tinker with some 2d so I created this jump with a character similar to the Taylor model from AM. I used Toon boom. It was fun. Made me analyze each frame much more carefully.

His tail is totally having some Volume problems. I mad do a cleanup of it soon. But no promises.

AM pose - Week 2

So Ive been at animation mentor two weeks now. This is the first assignment. It was to replicate a pose that we had sketched. This is version 6. I've tweaked it to death and I still don't know if I'm happy with it.

Greatful Dead/Life is Good

MALARIA!!!!

So my lovely wife bought me a subscription to National Geographic. And I read the following sentence in one of the articles about malaria. It was such a dumbfounding statement that I had to post it. The article talks about how rampant malaria has been throughout history. And then it says:

"A million Union Army casualties in the U.S. Civil War are attributed to malaria, and in the Pacific theater of World War II casualties from the disease exceeded those from combat. Some scientists believe that one out of every two people who have ever lived have died of malaria."

I read the last sentence 5 times before it sunk in. "one out of every two people who have ever lived". Makes bird flu look pretty lame huh?

Clamped with some facial animation

Some New News

The below post was from the site I designed roughly a year ago before I went to Siggraph 06. So how do you catch up to date on a whole year of missed news?

Went to Siggraph, gave out 50 demo reels and never got a call back, was told I needed more Ogres killing each other in my reel. I had several relatives die, including my uncle Walter, two cousins Natasha and Cody, and my last remaining grand parent Mae Carr. My wife and I were in a terrible car wreck in which I broke one knee and had a large gash on the other. I was in a wheel chair for over 8 weeks. My wife had internal injuries and was hospitalized for 60 days. She is better now though :D I was promoted to Senior Artist at work (www.PlayAttention.com). I started a new School 5 days ago. It is an online school called Animation Mentor (www.animationmentor.com). My teacher is Elliott Roberts. He worked on Ratatouille, Robots, and Pirates of the Caribbean. More to come on AM in the future.

So yeah. Thats the last 12 months of my life. The whole thing seemed to start with me going to Siggraph...So I'm skipping it this year.
